I don’t remember at any point during my childhood or young adult life, anyone asking me this question. Do you?

I remember being asked “what do you want to be when you grow up” and answering with some sort of job title (whichever job I happened to think sounded good at the time).

No one ever asked WHO I wanted to be, or HOW I WANTED TO FEEL.

It’s a game changer, isn’t it?

I’m pretty sure I didn’t want to wake up and push the snooze button four times, dreading the fact that I had to go spend another day sitting in a cube in an office, doing office work. I don’t remember feeling anything while I was doing that except frustration.

Did you actually even choose what you REALLY wanted to do when you went to college?

I wanted to major in dance. Nothing made me happier than dancing.

My first year of junior college, someone, I can’t remember who, told me I would never make any money with my degree, so I chose something different. Advertising.

I’d always been good at drawing, and I enjoyed being creative, but it felt like a struggle.

Who knows if dance would have been any better – I believe that everything happens for a reason and all of it helped to shape me into the person I am today – I’m grateful for all of the experiences, jobs, and lessons I’ve learned.

How do you want to feel?

I want to feel inspired, playful, happy, carefree, fearless, confident, grateful, creative, healthy, love . . .I could go on.

It may have taken me many years to even consider the question, but once I did, I felt the shift.

It’s the shift that feels like you are finally living your life on purpose.

I’m sharing this because I want to make sure it’s a question you are asking yourself today and every day. Maybe no one has ever asked YOU the question, but it’s one you should really explore.
